NAAE 25th Annual Conference (ABU 2025)
The Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE) invites submissions for its 2025 Annual Conference under the theme "Rethinking Nigerian Agricultural Systems through
Innovation, ICT, and Food Systems". The conference will explore the transformative potential of innovations and digital technologies in enhancing Nigeria’s food systems to achieve sustainable food security, economic resilience, and agricultural growth.
Background:
The conference will address critical questions on how innovation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be harnessed to improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability within Nigeria's agricultural sector. With the growing challenges of climate change, food insecurity, and population growth, there is an urgent need to leverage cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies to strengthen Nigeria’s food systems, foster rural development, and ensure inclusive economic growth. The conference will focus on a wide range of issues including:
- Digital transformation in agriculture: Precision farming, IoT, AI, and data-driven decision-making.
- Innovations in agribusiness financing and financial technology (fintech) solutions.
- ICT in market access, supply chain efficiency, and logistics.
- Youth and women’s participation in digital agriculture.
- Policy frameworks and governance for fostering agri-tech innovation.
- ICT for climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
- Role of digital platforms in enhancing smallholder productivity and resilience.
- Case studies on the impact of ICT and innovation on rural development and poverty reduction.
- Innovations in agricultural education and capacity building for the digital economy.
Objectives:
The conference aims to:
- Examine the role of ICT and innovation in enhancing agricultural productivity, sustainability, and food security in Nigeria.
- Explore policies and practices that facilitate technology adoption, financial inclusion, and market access.
- Provide a platform for knowledge exchange among academics, policymakers, development partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Share empirical insights, case studies, and best practices to address current and emerging challenges within Nigeria's food systems.
Members and non-members as well as experts and development partners within and outside Nigeria are invited to submit well researched papers under any of the sub-themes.
